Why Chinese Communist Party reached Kathmandu amid crisis in Nepal
China has been openly exposed in Nepal’s current political crisis. Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli abruptly dissolved Parliament last Sunday.
With his decision, the ruling Nepalese Communist Party is divided into two camps. One section is headed by Prime Minister Oli and the other section is headed by former Prime Minister Pushp Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
China did not like to divide the Nepali Communist Party in this way. On Sunday, Guo Yezou, deputy minister of the international wing of the Chinese Communist Party, reached Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, with a high-powered team.
This team will talk to both the factions of the Nepali Communist Party. According to the report of English newspaper The Hindu, on Monday, the Chinese team will also meet the international wing of the Nepali Communist Party.
Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is in charge of the international wing of the Nepali Communist Party.
Ram Karki, the Nepali Communist Party’s deputy head of international affairs, told The Hindu newspaper, “The brotherhood between us is not only with the Communist Party of China but also with the Left parties of India and Bangladesh. There is a mutual conversation between us. This is a routine visit. Our delegation keeps on coming. ”
According to The Hindu, this Chinese team will talk to the Oli and Prachanda camps to dissolve the Nepali Parliament. It is expected that both Oli and Prachanda will meet the Chinese delegation. Both Oli and Prachanda are presenting their claims on the Nepali Communist Party. Both are also taking action against each other.
Karki told The Hindu that Oli would realize that he had made a mistake in the split in the party. Karki said that on December 20, Oli took the wrong step by dissolving Parliament. Karki said that instead of running the communist agenda, Oli is moving on the path of neo-liberalism.
He said, “Looking at their authoritarian behavior, it does not seem that they will accept their mistake. They are showing the kind of trend that we are seeing in many countries of the world today.”
After several months of tensions between the two sides, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yankee played an important role and negotiated between Oli and Prachanda.
