Read Time:2 Minute, 58 Second

Due to heavy rains in three quarters of the country, the rivers are flowing above the danger mark. The current monsoon is in its final stages. Most of the rivers in the north-west states are in spate, while this will be the second round of flooding in the rivers of the eastern states.

All major rivers of North India are in spate, warning issued

Most of the 125 hundred reservoirs of the country are already full. Due to the excess of water, their gates can be opened, which can bring devastation in the form of floods. In view of the meteorological department’s warning, instructions have already been issued to the people of the lower areas around the rivers to be vigilant. From the Himalayan states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh, rivers are in spate due to heavy rains and torrential rains for the next few days. The water levels of the rivers of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have risen above the danger mark.

Flood situation may worsen at 26 places

26 places have been identified in the warning issued by the Union Water Power Ministry, where the flood situation can be very bad. These include Bihar and most parts of Uttar Pradesh. However, Jharkhand, Assam, Orissa, Rajasthan and West Bengal will also be affected by the floods. The country’s 33 major barrages and dams can also be breached, where their gates can be opened if there is excess water. There is a possibility of damage to areas in the river basin related to it. Flood situation has been created in the tributaries of Ganga. Heavy rains have started in the Gangetic plains, which will continue for the next several days.

There will be heavy rains in many northern states

Due to incessant rains in the Himalayan states, all the big and small rivers are flowing out of their shores. Rain has started in Jammu and Kashmir since Wednesday, which will rain heavily on 27 August. Himachal Pradesh will receive heavy rains with strong thunderstorms and glow till August 28. In Uttarakhand, heavy to heavy rains can occur for a full week. Heavy rain is expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi starting from 26 till the night of 29 August. The process of heavy rains will continue throughout the week in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Due to heavy rains in eastern Rajasthan, the water level in the rivers here has started increasing. Ravi Shankar Dam and Bango Dam of Chhattisgarh are full. Now the rain water can cause havoc in the form of flood.

Warning issued for Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh

Floods are likely to occur in Ranchi, Seraikela, West and East Singhbhum in Jharkhand, for which a warning has been sent to the state government for monitoring. Bastar, Sukma, Dhamtari, Korba, Dantewada and Bijapur have been alerted to the extent of flood due to release of water from the dams and barrage of Chhattisgarh. The Chambal river flowing in Rajasthan is flowing above the danger mark. Areas on its banks have been alerted.

The Gandhisagar Dam located in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, the Gambhiri Dam in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan and the Kalisindh Dam can rise at any time, causing the areas under its purview to be flooded. Due to continuous rains in Madhya Pradesh, small big rivers have started leaving the shore. This has increased flood risk in many districts of Gujarat and Rajasthan along with Dhar, Indore, Jhabua, Ratlam.
