Ways to Empower Senior People with disabilities

Read Time:2 Minute, 13 Second
Elder people are the backbone of the society. Even though they are aged and fragile, they are like a protecting shield for children and grandchildren. Their wisdom is the source of growth of every young individual. However, motivating elder people, especially those with disabilities is really a tough task. Not only they are weak and less mobile, but the added disability factor keens to lower their self-confidence, trust, and belief and thus they start to have a negative feeling for their life. However, with a bit of research and fun activities, one can help to motivate and empower senior elderly people with disabilities. Some of the ways to empower senior people with disabilities are-

Brainstorming Fun Activities –Talking to the seniors about their likes, comforts, and discomforts can soothe them and can make them feel safe and happy. Along with that some fun and engaging activities like Cooking, Musical Chair, Low Impact weight lifting or watching a movie or a show can make them nostalgic, thereby motivating them to enjoy their life fully.

Help the elder people to connect with their old best friends – There is no better feeling than to meet with your old best friends with whom you lived the most memorable years of your life. Old people may have lost all the connections with their best friends as they did not have the means of social media and smartphone connections. As a youth, what we can do is to find at least few of the good friends of our beloved elder; by any means and et, they have a get-together. Trust me!! The people who did not want to live their life will now start enjoying every moment of it.

Look for easier alternatives – It is very difficult for a differently able senior citizen to work things accordingly as they are. Some might have problems in walking, some may be blind or some may have hearing problems. Thus, we should always look for easier approaches to make things simpler for them. Use of wheelchair, use of hearing machines can be helpful but accompanying it with a touch of feelings will surely soothe your senior person.

Mark a Daily Routine – Making a perfect day schedule is helpful for every person and even more for elders with disabilities. Setting a time for walking, dressing, toileting, brushing teeth, eating meals and exercising along fun and entertainment will make them engaged for a lot of time in a day, thus motivating them to live happily.
