US lawmaker Anthony G Brown expressed concern over restrictions on Kashmir
Washington: The US MP has expressed concern about the situation in Kashmir and has demanded the Indian government to remove the restrictions in the valley.
Congress member Antony G. Bron said that I am very concerned about the recent activities in Kashmir. Militarizing the area has created a situation in which a mistake can have disastrous consequences.
Bron is the vice president of the powerful House Armed Services Committee. He said that there are restrictions on freedom of expression, gathering of people and their movement in Kashmir which is ‘worrying’. Bron demanded that these officers should be reinstated immediately.
The US MP said that I appeal to the governments of India and Pakistan to take a sabbatical and urge them to come to the negotiating table to reduce tensions with the United States.
He said that he will continue to work with his colleagues in Congress and the administration to find a peaceful solution to this humanitarian crisis.
Congress member Ilhan Omar tweeted that it has been more than 40 days since the Government of India has shut down all communication channels in Kashmir.
He said, ‘I have written a letter urging the Government of India to restore all media. It also appealed to the Government of India and Pakistan to allow a fair investigation into the area.
India has made it clear that abolishing the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution is an ‘internal matter’ of the country.
India defended the imposition of restrictions in the Kashmir Valley, saying that this was done to prevent Pakistan from spreading terrorism in the region.
Last week, Indian-American Congress member Pramila Jaipal and another MP requested Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo to convince India to immediately lift the ban on media in Jammu and Kashmir.
