On the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the crisis is clouded. The world’s most breathtaking T20 league has been suspended indefinitely due to the Corona epidemic. The IPL was to be held from 29 March to 24 May as per pre-determined schedule. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will organize it only after things become normal.

12 years ago, the IPL started today with a bang …

April 18 is very special in the history of IPL. It started today in Bangalore in 2008. The first match of the inaugural season was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). In the very first match, KKR opener Brandon McCullum played a blistering innings of 158 not out in just 73 balls.

In the opening match, Kolkata team captained by Sourav Ganguly defeated Bengaluru by 140 runs. At that time, Rahul Dravid was captaining Bengaluru. Kiwi Dhurandhar McCullum had 13 sixes and 10 fours off his bat and was the first ‘Player of the Match’ of the IPL.

McCullum admitted – 158 runs changed my whole life

McCullum, the current head coach of KKR, admitted in the Star Sports show- ‘Cricket Connected’, ‘The innings of 158 runs had changed my whole life. I don’t remember exactly what people said to me after that innings. Yes, but I remember my captain Sourav Ganguly’s comment well, he told me – your life has changed forever with this innings … and I agree with him 100 percent.

IPL on top of popularity only after debut…

The blistering start to the tournament made cricket fans crazy about this format. The trend of people towards the shortest format of cricket increased so much that it reached the top of popularity. IPL was the thinking of Lalit Modi. Amidst the glamor and dazzling temper, this league spent so much money that the world kept on watching.

IPL hits in India, but controversy also simultaneously

Every game was trying to adopt this IPL model. Lalit Modi was the Chairman and Commissioner of IPL for the first three seasons from 2008 to 2010. After the IPL 2010 final, he was shown the way out of the BCCI. Lalit Modi was charged with many charges, including rigging of money.

– Genie’s entry of spot fixing …

The IPL was a hit in India, but on the other hand, this league was surrounded in many controversies. The biggest controversy surfaced in 2013, when Rajasthan Royals players were accused of spot-fixing. And at that time the son-in-law of BCCI President N Srinivasan was arrested for his involvement in illegal betting.
