The most painful event in the history of the Olympic Games, when Palestinian terrorists killed 11 Israeli players

Read Time:2 Minute, 36 Second

No one forgets the year 1972 in the history of the Olympic Games, when 11 Israeli players were taken hostage in their hotel by Palestinian terrorists during the Games. Later, the end of this whole incident was also very painful. In this incident Israel lost all its players held hostage. The Munich Olympic Games started on 26 August 1972 with a very colorful program. At that time no one knew what was going to happen in the coming days. Many arrangements were made for the safety of the players participating in the Olympic Games. Security personnel were deployed from the hotel to the stadium and on the way as well.

Israeli players were staying in a hotel in the Olympic Games Village, about 20 km from Munich. On 6 September 1972, five masked Palestinian terrorists entered the hotel. He first shot weightlifter Joseph Romano. After this, his second victim became wrestling coach Moses Weinberg. The incident caused panic in the hotel. Everyone was running here and there. Meanwhile, the terrorists had taken 9 Israeli players hostage. He had demanded from the German government that some of his selected leaders arrested by Israel should be released immediately. There was a threat from the terrorists that if this did not happen then they would kill all the players.

On the other hand, it was decided to continue all the events of the Olympic Games in the stadium. There was no information about it there. The German Interior Minister assured the terrorists that their demands would be considered. Meanwhile, Germany talked to the terrorists and asked them to send them to Cairo safely with a helicopter. On this the terrorists made pressure to take all the kidnapped players with them, on which the German government bowed down.

Players were kidnapped and were taken to Bavaria airport

In some vehicles, the terrorists and kidnapped players were taken to Bavaria airport away from Munich. Germany’s plan was that by carrying out an operation there, the kidnapped players would be safely released. As soon as they reached Bavaria Airport, the sharp shoots sitting on the buildings started targeting. There was chaos at the airport. The terrorists did not want to leave the players at any cost.

Amidst the firing, a terrorist took out a hand grenade and threw it at the helicopter. With a loud bang, the whole scene changed. There were dead bodies all around. The remaining terrorists were firing continuously. After some time it was announced on the radio of Germany that all the hostages had been safely freed. But, the reality of the airport was different. All terrorist were killed one by one. But when the inspection was done, not a single player was alive there. Everyone had been killed.

People Present at the Airport was shot

Some personnel present at the airport were also victims of the bullets of terrorists and security personnel. Everyone’s eyes were moist seeing this scene. After some time, it was informed twice on radio TV that no player was left alive.  On this incident, Israel had condemned Germany saying that they did not handle it properly.
