Indian captain Virat Kohli, who has been equally dominant in all the three formats of the game for the last few years, has been chosen by the famous magazine ‘The Cricketer’ as the best cricketer of the past decade. The magazine has prepared a list of 50 cricketers who have performed brilliantly in the last ten years, which includes both male and female cricketers.
Apart from Kohli from India, the list includes off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (14th), Rohit Sharma (15th), who scored three double centuries in ODIs, World Cup-winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (35th), all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (36th) and women’s cricket team. Includes veteran Mithali Raj (40).
The magazine wrote about Kohli, ‘The Indian captain was the unanimous choice for the best player of the decade. Virat Kohli scored 20,960 runs more than any other player internationally in this decade. Hashim Amla of South Africa is in second place in the list of batsmen who have scored the most runs, but he has scored almost 5000 runs less than Kohli.
Sachin Tendulkar made a history of 100 centuries in this decade and then said goodbye to international cricket. It reads, ‘When Tendulkar retired in 2013 with a record of 100 centuries, it was said that no one would be able to match him, but now Kohli is only one century behind second-ranked Ricky Ponting with 70 centuries. ‘
Kohli scored 69 of his 70 centuries between 2010 and 2019. He has played a total of 166 international matches as captain so far, but his batting has improved with responsibility as he averages 66.88 in these matches.
In the top ten cricketers of the decade, Kohli is followed by James Anderson, Australian women’s cricketer Alice Parry, Steve Smith, Hashim Amla, Kane Williamson, AB De Villiers, Kumar Sangakkara, David Warner, and Dale Steyn.
Ashwin is second among Indians. He was the highest wicket-taker from 2010 to 2019. He has taken 362 wickets in Tests and 202 wickets in limited-overs matches. Rohit has proved himself in all three formats as an opener.
