Team rankings on the field do not matter, target 2020 World Cup

The Indian football team has performed extremely well in recent times. Star player winger Udanta Singh of the team believes that the team is looking to make its place in the next World Cup. The biggest challenge for the team is qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.

Udanta said that the World Cup qualifying match for the Indian football team is going to be a ‘real challenge’. The Indian team has played very well in the last few tournaments including the recently played Asia Cup. The team players have gained a lot of confidence due to their performance.

Udanta said, “It will be difficult for us in comparison to all qualifying rounds.” We have to show our best game to make it to the next round. Every match played here will be important. Team rankings on the playground do not matter. Performance in a match with Oman’s team will matter.

Oman’s team is currently ranked 87th in the world rankings while India is ranked 103rd. The last match between the two countries was in December in which the goalless draw was held.

The Indian team will play its first match in the World Cup second round qualifier to be played in 2022. The match is to be played against Oman in Guwahati on Thursday. After this match, India have to go to Doha for the Asian champions on September 10, where they will face Qatar. Bangladesh and Afghanistan teams are also in Group E. All teams have to play two matches before June next year. One match on their home ground while the other going out.

Significantly, eight groups have been formed for these matches. The top-ranked team in each group and the four runners-up teams will get a chance to go to the third round.
