Need to change mindset about women: Court
The Delhi High Court had already decided in favor of women, which has been upheld by the Supreme Court. The court said, “The mindset about women must be changed and true equality should be brought in the army. Women work shoulder to shoulder with men.
Women are eligible for command post
The Center argued that ‘command post’ responsibility in the army cannot be given to women. Command post means to command and lead a legion. The court said that preventing women from coming to the command post is against equality. The court further said that depriving women of equal opportunity is unacceptable and disturbing.
The High Court’s decision was in 2010
In fact, in March 2010, the High Court ordered a permanent commission like that of men after completion of 14 years of service in the army. This order was given under the Short Service Commission. Let us know that the Ministry of Defense protested before the court on this. The court accepted the ministry’s appeal for hearing but did not stay the High Court verdict. It is noteworthy that during the trial, the court’s attitude was sympathetic towards the female officers.
