Shubman Gill scored a double century in the third unofficial Test against West Indies-A at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.
India’s rising batsman Shubman Gill has created history on Caribbean soil. On Thursday, he scored a double century in the third unofficial Test match against West Indies-A at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. With this, he became the youngest batsman to score a double century in first-class cricket, playing on behalf of the Indian representative team.
Shubman Gill achieved this feat at the age of 19 years 334 days. Earlier this record was in the name of Gautam Gambhir, who scored a double century for the Board President’s XI against Zimbabwe in 2002 at the age of 20 and 124 days.
Gill scored an unbeaten 204 runs in 248 balls, which included his 19 fours and two sixes. His strike rate was 82.25 during this brilliant innings. Gill took over after the failure of the top-order batsmen. He shared an unbeaten 315-run partnership for the fifth wicket with captain Hanuma Vihari. Significantly, Gill lost his wicket on the very first ball in the first innings.
Vihari scored an unbeaten 118 off 221 balls, including his six in addition to 10 fours. Thanks to this huge partnership, India-A declared their second innings on a score of 365/4 and gave West Indies-A a target of 373 runs. By the end of the third day’s play, the hosts had scored 37 runs without any loss. Now on the fourth day of the third Test, the team led by Jahmar Hamilton will have to score 336 runs to win the match.
