Read Time:1 Minute, 31 Second
Women in Saudi Arabia can now travel abroad without the permission of any male guardian. The royal order has been issued in this regard on Friday.

According to the new rules, now women of more than 21 years of age can apply for a passport without the consent of any male guardian.

That is, now Saudi Arabia can apply passports for all adult travel abroad. Now it will not discriminate between men and women.

According to the imperial order, now women will have the right to register for the birth of their child, their marriage and divorce.

In addition, there has been talk of giving more opportunities to women in jobs. According to the new rule, all citizens of the country will have the right to work without any discrimination.

So far, women in Saudi Arabia had to seek permission from a male guardian (husband, father or other male relatives) to go abroad or apply for passports.

Saudi Arabia’s ruler Prince Mohammed bin Salman had announced a number of reforms before this. These include removing the prohibition of women driving.

In the year 2016, they had announced plans to improve the economy of the country by 2030. One of its motives was to increase the participation of women in the workforce from 22 percent to 30 percent.

Although there have been many high profile cases in Saudi Arabia, in which women have demanded asylum in other countries like Canada, accusing them of harassment.

In January this year, Canada sheltered 18-year-old Rahif Muhammad al-Qunoon. She ran away from Saudi Arabia and tried to go to Australia. But she was trapped in a hotel in Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, and then she appealed for help.

Many international human rights organizations claim that women in Saudi Arabia are treated as second-rate citizens.
