Russia’s sovereign wealth fund and the Indian pharmaceutical company Hetero have agreed to produce more than 100 million (100 million) doses of Sputnik V vaccine per year in India. A statement issued on Sputnik V’s Twitter account said that Hetero and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which is supporting and globally marketing the vaccine, plans to start production of Sputnik V in India in early 2021. The statement also said that the second and third phase trials are going on in India.
Currently the third phase of the vaccine trials are underway in Belarus, UAE, Venezuela and other countries. Hyderabad-based Dr. Reddy’s Laboratory is undergoing phase two and three trials in India. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Limited has said that the final phase of trials in India will be completed by March 2021. Russian officials said on Tuesday that according to the contract, Sputnik V vaccine would be provided in limited quantities by Russia to other countries in December, while it would be prominently distributed to other countries in January 2021. Efforts are on to increase its production and reduce the price further. People of Russia will get this vaccine for free.
