President Covind, the counterpart welcomed the visit of three African countries to Gambia

President Ramnath Kovind has reached Gambia in the second phase of his trip to three African countries. Gambia President Adam Barrow welcomed him with military honors at Banjul Airport. There was a discussion of the representative level between the two leaders. President Covind negotiated wide-ranging issues with his counterpart Adam Barrow of Gambia. 

The agreement between the two leaders was signed in the field of International Solar Alliance, Medicine and Homeopathy. Under this agreement, India will provide five million dollars to promote skill development and cottage industry in Gambia. During this, President Kovind said that there was a discussion on global and local issues between the two leaders. President Covind praised the President of Gambia for stability and development. President Covind appreciated the contribution of Indian expatriates in the development of Gambia. He said that the NRIs have mingled well with the Gambian community. Appreciating the Diaspora Indians, he said that these people have a significant contribution in the development of Gambia.

Significantly, this is the first visit of an Indian President to Gambia. Gambia is not India’s embassy. However, India has decided to open 18 new embassies in Africa. Seven of them are to be opened in West Africa. India and Gambia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the traditional systems of medicine and homeopathy. After this talks, the President was impressed with the media. He said that being two ancient societies, the two countries have much to offer to the world in areas of Ayurveda and other forms of traditional health systems. President Covind apprised the President of Gambia his contribution in promoting India’s traditional relations with his country and contributed to its development.
