It was discovered on 15 January 1802 by England sailor Matthew Flinders. He wrote for the first time about Lake Hilar.
This lake is present near the Pacific Ocean, due to which the pink color of this lake and the blue color of the ocean make a very spectacular view.
Its color is pink due to the Dunaliella Salina microorganism present in the Haliyar lake.
Because Dunaliella Salina and the salt present in the lake (red halophilic bacteria) combine to form a red dye, which makes the water present in Lake Haliyar look pink.
Let me tell, the red halophilic present in the salt contains a carotenoid which leaves a special red color.

Since 2012, Lake Hilar has been in the protected area of the Recherche Archipelago Nature Reserve.
