There is a lot of fear among people about huge challans being deducted under the new Motor Vehicles Act. A sample of this fear was seen in Agra where a couple kept their minor son locked in a room for several hours. Actually, the father had bought a new bike and the son insisted that he would ride his test. Scared of the son’s insistence, the parents locked him in the room. After this the boy called the police after which the police reached home and got the boy ‘free’.
If sources are to be believed, Dharam Singh, a resident of Shahdara area of Etmaduddaula, Agra, bought a bike on August 12. His 16-year-old son often rides a bike. Later, the government made a provision for heavy fines under the new rules, which led to Khafzada Dharam Singh snatching the bike key from his son. Dharam Singh says that according to the new motor vehicle act, there is a provision for a fine of Rs 25,000 if a minor is caught driving. This is the reason why we had to get a bike key from our son.
According to Dharam Singh, when his son was adamant about riding a bike, he saw no other way than to lock him in a room. The source said that the boy locked in the room called the police and requested to save himself. At the same time, SHO Udayvir Singh Malik of Etamaduddaula said that we have warned the family and asked the boy to obey his parents. At the same time, Anil Kumar, RTO (Enforcement) of Agra said that the new motor vehicle act has not been implemented in Naya in Uttar Pradesh. Challans are still being deducted under the old law.
