The Delhi Disaster Management Authority had issued an order by allowing the celebration of Chhath Puja at sites in the city except at the riverbank of Yamuna.
Chatt Puja is important for the people of the NCT of Delhi. A note issued by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, the Government declared 10 November 2021 as a public holiday. On 30 September firstly government prohibited the ban on the celebration of Chhat Puja due to the threat of Covid-19.
Chhat Puja is celebrated after Diwali by the people in the region of Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh, which involves the offering of ‘Arghya’ by fasting women to the Sun god in knee-deep water. It involves elaborate rituals spanning over three days.
The government laid few instructions like all devotees are strictly prohibited from throwing puja material like food grain, oil, etc into river Yamuna.
