The new variant of the corona virus, Omicron, has once again increased the difficulties of the people. Intimidating claims are constantly being made about the contagiousness and speed of spread of this virus. Meanwhile, Medanta Chairman Dr Naresh Trehan has shared many important information about the virus in a conversation
How Fast Does Omicron Spread?
Dr. Trehan said that the transmission rate of the Omicron variant is much higher than all the previous variants. That is, this variant can infect humans more rapidly. The first wave in India came from the alpha variant, in which a human could infect two to three people. The second wave came because of the Delta variant, which had a transmission rate of 6.5. That is, it was three times faster than the first wave. Now according to estimates, the transmission rate of the new Omicron variant is between 12 and 18. That is, it can spread about three times faster than Delta.
Which people are most at risk?
People are more concerned about who is more at risk from the new Omicron variant of Corona. In response to this question, Dr. Trehan said, ‘Severe symptoms have not been seen in fully vaccinated people infected with Omicron. There is no need to admit such patients in the hospital all over the world.
Threat to what age people
are more prone to people of what age the new variants of Corona, it is important to understand. On this Dr. Trehan says, ‘The risk of infection of Omicron depends on the capacity of the body. That is, on a healthy lung, strong muscles and a completely healthy person, its effect will be less visible. Second, people suffering from diseases like weak immunity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer or arthritis are at higher risk. The immunity of the elderly also gradually decreases, so they are also advised to be careful.
Dr Trehan, citing a report, said that children below the age of 5-6 years are showing more effect of the virus. However, no strong claim has been made about this so far. But children have not been vaccinated, so if they come in contact with the virus, then the risk will definitely increase.
Virus dominates those who do not take vaccine
Doctor Trehan said that those who have not got both doses of vaccine, the virus is becoming more dominant on them. The number of such patients can increase rapidly. Serious symptoms can be seen in them and the risk of life will also be high. So far, more than 125 crore people have been vaccinated in which no serious side effects have been seen. In such a situation, instead of worrying people, there is a need to get the vaccine as soon as possible
