 The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced to extend the validity of motor vehicle documents to 30 September 2020. This means that all documents such as fitness certificates, permits (all types), driving licenses, registration certificates which have expired after February 1, 2020 or at any time will remain valid till September 30. This is for the convenience of those who are not able to renew their documents due to the lockdown issued to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Earlier this deadline was till 31 July 2020.

Earlier, the ministry issued an advisory on 30 March announcing extension of document renewal by 31 May. Later, it was extended to 30 June and by the end of May, the ministry has again extended the deadline to 31 July, following the extension of the lockdown. However, considering the fact that several measures to prevent Kovid-19 are still in progress, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari directed his ministry to issue an advisory for extension of this period by the end of September. is.

Apart from this, the Ministry has also issued a gazette notification on May 21, 2020, under Rule 32 or Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 up to July 31, 2020, to waive fees and additional fees. The Ministry has also requested the State / UT Governments to consider offering exemption for permits, or fees for permits and renewals or tax for renewal to provide relief in these exceptional circumstances of Kovid-19. Consider giving concession to / penalty.
