António Guterres

UN Chief Guterres, who is on a three-day visit to Pakistan, expressed concern over the CAA, saying that whenever there is a change in the citizenship law, it should be ensured that it does not lose anyone’s citizenship. It is necessary to do everything for this. No country should be devoid of it.

During the interview, he was asked if he was worried about the new law of India. In response to this question, Guterres said, ‘Definitely. I am worried about CAA. Because it is an area in which the respective unit of the UN is more active. The current High Commissioner for Refugees is active in this situation. Such laws pose a danger of losing citizenship. When a citizenship law is changed, it is very important to take care that nobody’s citizenship is lost.

In the context of Kashmir, Guterres said that two reports by the UN High Commissioner on Kashmir have played an important role in clearly speaking about the developments in the valley. It is important that these reports are taken seriously. The UN chief said on Sunday that he was concerned about the situation in Kashmir and was ready to mediate between India and Pakistan to resolve the long-standing issue. However, India turned down his offer.
