Nirbhaya Case: Hanging On February 1, Court Asks Report from Tihar

Read Time:1 Minute, 13 Second

The hanging of the four convicts on February 1 may be postponed after the death warrant was issued in the Nirbhaya case. Sessions Judge AK Jain has summoned the Tihar Jail administration’s report till 10 am on the plea of the convicts AP Singh.

Significantly, on Thursday morning, advocate AP Singh filed a petition in the Patiala House Court to stop the hanging of the four convicts (Akshay Singh Thakur, Mukesh Singh, Vinay Kumar Sharma and Pawan Kumar Gupta).

The convicts A.P. Singh has filed a petition in the Patiala House Court in Delhi, seeking a moratorium on the hanging date of February 1. It has been argued about the petition that as per the rules, all the options in a single offense cannot be hanged before they expire. The lawyer has cited Delhi prison rules for this.

As per the rules, it is impossible to be on February 1, because it is necessary to tell any convict about it 14 days before hanging. Along with this, there is a rule to hang all the culprits in the same crime simultaneously. It is difficult to be hanged on February 1 in the event of following both of these rules.

According to the death warrant by the Patiala House Court of Delhi, the four convicts are to be hanged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail No-3 on February 1, two days later. The jail administration has made full preparations for this.
