Mehidy Hasan Miraz is a cricket player from Bangladesh who represents his country as an all-rounder. Early in his career, he became world-renowned for his right-arm off-spin bowling and right-handed batting. He became the first cricket player from Bangladesh to win the title of “Player of the Tournament” at an ICC tournament when he was crowned the winner of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup on February 11, 2016.
Early Life and Background
Mehidy was raised at Khalishpur, Khulna, after being born in Bakerganj, Barisal. His love of cricket was encouraged by his mother, Minara Begum, and father, Jalal Hossain. Rumana Akhtar Mimma is the name of his sister as well. At the age of eight, Mehidy started playing cricket by enrolling in the Kashipur Cricket Academy. He later made his debut in the national Under-14 cricket competition.
Cricketing Journey
For the 2016 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, Mehidy was chosen to lead the Bangladesh Under-19 squad. During the World Cup, he was utilized as an all-rounder in the lower-middle order, despite having batted as an opener in youth competitions. He won Player of the Tournament for his remarkable achievements, which included 242 runs and 12 wickets in six games.
He scored 51 runs and claimed four wickets in his first-class debut against Rajshahi Division in February 2015. Additionally, Mehidy made his debut with the Rajshahi Kings in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in November 2016. Later, he was chosen to play for the Khulna Tigers in the BPL 2019–20 season.
International Debut and Success
On October 20, 2016, Miraz played his first Test match against England. In his maiden Test match, he opened the bowling despite being an off-spinner. He finished the series with 19 wickets and was named Player of the Series, becoming the first Bangladeshi to win the accolade in a first Test series. In his second Test, he became just the sixth bowler to take three five-wicket hauls in his first two Test matches.

Although he did not play, he was named in Bangladesh’s ODI team for their series against New Zealand in 2016. On March 25, 2017, he made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka, dismissing Kusal Mendis to claim his first wicket. Mehidy made his Bangladesh T20I debut later that year on April 6, 2017, against Sri Lanka.
Personal Life
Following the devastating effects of the Christchurch terror tragedy in New Zealand, Mehidy wed Rabeya Akhter Priti, his longtime fiancée, in March 2019.
