Mbappé Strikes Twice to Secure Tense Victory for Real Madrid Against Real Betis

Read Time:1 Minute, 51 Second

Kylian Mbappé, the forward for Real Madrid, scored twice, including a penalty, to secure a 2-0 victory at home against Real Betis on Sunday. This win marked the champions’ second LaLiga triumph of the season.

Mbappé, who transferred from Paris Saint-Germain to Madrid in June, had not scored in their previous three LaLiga matches after finding the net on his debut in a 2-0 UEFA Super Cup win over Europa League holders Atalanta.

On Sunday, the French striker ended his brief scoring drought, helping his team secure their second league win in four matches. This result provided a welcome boost before the two-week international break, with Real Madrid currently in second place with eight points, four behind Barcelona.

Following a disappointing 1-1 draw against lowly Las Palmas on Thursday and still missing attacking midfielder Jude Bellingham due to a leg injury, Madrid had a sluggish start on Sunday. Despite dominating possession, they struggled to create clear chances.

The so-called “New Galacticos” of Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, and Rodrygo struggled with their passing and connection early on. Betis, well-organized defensively, posed a threat on the counter-attack, with forward Abde Ezzalzouli squandering two clear opportunities in the first 15 minutes that could have surprised Real.

With Rodrygo stationed on the right, Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior had difficulty finding their rhythm, alternating positions without much success. Madrid’s challenge was evident as they worked to integrate Mbappé into their system effectively.

Mbappé missed a few chances from Vinícius’s crosses and couldn’t outpace defenders early in the game. However, he started to show more of his usual form with some impressive runs from the middle and left wing as the match progressed.

After the break, Real Madrid appeared more dynamic, with Mbappé and Vinícius starting to connect better. They made headway in the second half, with Vinícius hitting the post in the 50th minute.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 67th minute when Mbappé scored from close range after a brilliant back-heel from midfielder Federico Valverde, who showcased excellent vision to avoid the offside trap.

Mbappé sealed the win in the 75th minute with a penalty after Vinícius was fouled by goalkeeper Rui Silva.
