Master writer Rathnakumar upset over film’s postponement: Pollution, protest, raid, and now coronavirus
Thalapathy Vijay’s Master was supposed to hit the theatres today (April 9), across the globe. However, due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the film, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has been postponed. Filmmaker Rathnakumar, who is one of the writers of Master, took to Twitter to express his disappointment.
In his tweet, he revealed that he has been receiving a lot of messages from fans who were eagerly anticipating the film’s release. He also mentioned that the team of Master faced a lot of challenges ranging from air pollution to income tax raids and coronavirus outbreak.
His tweet read, “#Master would have released by now if #CoronaOutbreak didn’t happen. I can see a lot of sad tweets, As a fan, it hurts big. Pollution, Protests, Raid & now this. Anyway, we will have the last laugh. Survival First. Celebrations Later. Suddenly this selfie looks Nostalgic (sic).”

Master’s story is jointly written by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Rathnakumar and Pon Parthiban. At the film’s audio launch, which was held in Chennai last month, the Aadai director spoke about how Vijay’s workout routine inspired him to lose weight.
Speaking at the audio release function, he said, “I was around 97 kilos when the movie started. In between the shoot, I used to watch Vijay sir working out. Then only it hit me. Now I am 89. The reason for this is also Vijay sir.”
Master, produced by Xavier Britto, boasts of an ensemble cast including Vijay, Vijay Sethupathi, Malavika Mohanan, Andrea Jeremiah, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Arjun Das in significant roles. The film’s technical crew comprises of composer Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan, and editor Philomin Raj.
