What if you are completely normal and one day you suddenly lose your voice. You try to talk, but do not let the noise come out of your throat.
And then years later, like a miracle, you suddenly find your voice back.
This happened to Marie McCreadie who could not make any sound after falling ill once. And then after living the life of a dumb girl for 12 years, one day suddenly her voice came back to him.
It is the 1970s. Britain-born Marie McCreadie was 12 years old when she moved to Australia with her parents.
Marie moved to Australia in February 1970, leaving the cool weather of London. At that time there were hot days and for Marie, it was like summer vacation.
Marie slowly began to learn the language of Australia and started her new life but in a month everything changed for her.
Marie told the BBC that I woke up one morning when I had a cold, a cold. In a couple of days, I came to know that I have bronchitis.
There were a lot of sore throats and high fever for the first week. After this, the fever was cured and the lung infection also ended and my health started improving. But after about six weeks, there was no sound from the throat.
Marie had no idea what was happening to them.
She felt that she would once again start speaking like before. But this did not happen and Marie too slowly assumed that now she will never be able to speak.
Marie says that At first, I got very upset. But then later I acted with courage. I didn’t know what I would do.
Marie could not only speak, but it also is not, she could not even make any sound. Neither there was any sound in his cough nor there was any voice in his laughter.
Marie says that no facts have been revealed even in the examination of doctors. She says, “At first he said that I have laryngitis. Then later said he had hysterical mutism.”
The term hysterical mutism, used in the 1990s, means when everything is normal in the body but there is some disturbance in the throat system. Many times doctors believe that the person is not deliberately talking.
Marie says that I was neither stubborn nor did I want to be silent. I couldn’t say anything to anyone. It was impossible to talk on the phone and I couldn’t even scream if I was in trouble.”
She says that once coming down the mountain with her friends, she was stuck in the middle but could not even call anyone for help. Gradually, he learned that he had to be more careful.
Once at school, the teacher added Marie to the choir. It was compulsory for all the children to join this team, but for Marie, it was nothing less than harassment.
She says that many in the school had no idea about their problems. She says, “Many people used to make fun of me. But you learn to deal with the situation.”
I always kept a notebook and pen with me and used to make my point known to others by writing. Some of my friends used to do lip readings, but often it was very difficult for me to talk.
Neither I could cry nor I could express my anger on anything. I used to vent my anger on myself and started blaming myself.
I also went to a Catholic nun. He said that I was perfectly healthy and there was nothing that could stop me from talking. He said that God has punished me by snatching my voice.
Marie says that the nun talked to the local pastor and asked him to pray for me. Also, he told me to confess my sins before God and ask for forgiveness.
She says, “But I refused to do it because I knew that I had not committed any sin.”
“In the world where we live, we believe that clergy, nuns, and doctors never say anything wrong. In such a situation it was difficult to doubt them. I started questioning myself.”
“People used to laugh at me and make fun of me. Some call me a devil’s daughter. Sometimes I felt very bad to hear that.”
Marie says that she was barred from coming to church because she refused to confess her sins. When her friends went to church and prayed, she would sit outside and think about herself.
She says, “I started to think that all people say the truth, Lord Jesus does not want to see me and is possessed by the devil. I started feeling that I am not a Christian only. When you are young you are quite Some keep thinking. “
Marie says that not only the school but also the neighbors felt that they were possessed by the devil.
Two years after she lost her voice, Marie became lonely and began to suffer. At the age of 14, he attempted suicide and was rushed to the hospital.
From here he was not sent to school but was sent to a hospital for mental patients.
“It was like becoming a reality of nightmares. There were drug takers, people suffering from mental illness and victims of violence. I was the least among them.”
“There were electric shocks to some patients whose screams would make you shiver. That was a torture chamber.”
Marie was beginning to accept the parents as responsible for her condition. One day she ran away from the hospital and reached her friend’s house and then went to her house from there. But her relationship with her parents had deteriorated and she could not trust anyone.
She stayed away from everyone for six months and slowly started accepting the truth of her life and looking for further avenues. She started working in her mother’s coffee shop and started learning sign language.
Gradually, she started to feel normal and started returning to her life track.
Then one day a miracle happened that changed Marie’s life once again.
When Marie was 25 years old, her health suddenly deteriorated.
She says that I started coughing and blood started coming out of my mouth. I thought I was going to die. I was knowing that there was something stuck in my throat.
A colleague of mine took me to the hospital where the doctors saw that a big piece of mucus was stuck in Marie’s neck.
The doctors took out this piece and found out that it was a coin of three pence.
Marie says that this coin was stuck in her neck since 1960, but she had no idea how this coin reached her neck.
This coin was stuck in Marie’s neck near the sound system, due to which the vibration in her voice system stopped. For this reason, Marie could not speak for years. Later, after the exit of the coin, his voice returned.
Marie says after After years if I heard a voice coming out of my throat, I was not able to become active. I felt that someone was joking with me.
Doctors say that this coin was stuck in Marie McCreadie’s neck in such a way that it was difficult to detect it with an X-ray machine.
After getting the voice back, Marie first spoke to her mother on the phone. She later also joined the coir band.
In July 2019, his book “Voiceless” (ie without voice) was published in which he has written about his experience.
The coin which was stuck in Marie’s neck, she still keeps it with her. This coin is placed in his hand bracelet.

In a shocking development, YouTuber Praneeth Hanumanthu has become embroiled in controversy following his detention by the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau. Initially arrested for making offensive remarks during a podcast, Hanumanthu's predicament has escalated, resulting in further allegations under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after he tested positive for cannabis consumption. The Context of the Detention The origins of Hanumanthu's difficulties can be linked to a podcast he hosted, which included a conversation that many considered highly unseemly. During this episode, he made inappropriate comments regarding the dynamics between a father and daughter, igniting outrage among viewers and critics alike. This incident quickly garnered the attention of both the public and law enforcement, prompting an investigation by the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau. The primary allegation centered around his remarks, which were deemed to have crossed the boundaries of acceptable discourse. This scenario raises broader inquiries about accountability and the duties of content creators, particularly in an era where online platforms can amplify messages to a large audience. As a public figure, Hanumanthu's statements carry substantial weight, and the backlash he has encountered signifies society's increasing intolerance towards harmful rhetoric. Charges Related to Substances Things took a turn for the worse for Hanumanthu when, following his arrest, authorities opted to perform a drug test. The results confirmed the presence of cannabis in his system, leading to additional allegations under the NDPS Act. This legislation is a strict law in India aimed at combating substance abuse and trafficking. By testing positive for drug use, Hanumanthu not only worsened his legal troubles but also further tarnished his reputation. The addition of drug-related charges initiates an important discourse about the effects of substance use among influencers and celebrities. Many young individuals look up to figures like Hanumanthu, and such disclosures can have significant consequences on their perceptions and behaviors. The fallout from his actions extends beyond legal issues; it also encompasses the ethical obligations that accompany public visibility. Reactions from the Public and Consequences The public’s reaction to Hanumanthu's arrest has been varied. Many viewers voiced their outrage over both his initial remarks and his later substance use. Social media has been inundated with discussions, memes, and criticisms, illustrating the swift spread of information and opinions in today’s digital environment. Critics contend that individuals like Hanumanthu should be held accountable for their influence, particularly when it concerns endorsing a healthy lifestyle and responsible behavior. On the other hand, some supporters have rallied behind him, advocating for the necessity of empathy and understanding. They highlight the pressures that accompany being a public figure, especially in a hyper-connected world where every action is scrutinized. This divide in public sentiment mirrors a broader societal conversation about celebrity culture, accountability, and the intricacies of mental health and substance use. The Wider Picture of Substance Abuse Hanumanthu's situation is also part of a larger discourse regarding drug abuse in India, especially among the youth. As discussions about mental health and substance use become more widespread, incidents like this underscore the pressing need for awareness and education about addiction and its root causes. The stigma surrounding drug use often hampers open dialogue about the topic, leaving many to endure in silence. Moreover, the legal implications of the NDPS Act spark questions about how society addresses drug-related offenses. While the act aims to deter substance abuse, critics argue that such laws can disproportionately impact certain demographics and do not tackle the underlying causes of addiction. Conversations around harm reduction, rehabilitation, and public health strategies are increasingly relevant within the framework of these laws. Prospects Ahead for Hanumanthu As Hanumanthu navigates the forthcoming legal hurdles, his future remains unpredictable. He faces possible legal repercussions for both his unsatisfactory comments and his substance use, which could greatly affect his career and personal life. The scenario serves as a cautionary example for content creators about the consequences of their expressions and actions, highlighting the need for thoughtful engagement with their audience.…
