The explosion was so overwhelming that it razed hundreds of houses and buildings within a radius of ten km. The reason for this explosion is said to be more than two and a half thousand kg of ammonium nitrate (AN) kept in the warehouse. Because of this, the entire city was shaken and its voice was heard far enough. Shockwaves erupted from the explosion had razed hundreds of homes. After the blast, an inquiry was ordered by the government. It took nearly eight years to investigate this and then its report could be revealed elsewhere. It was said that the explosion of 300 tons of ammonium nitrate caused the plant building to become debris. A 40 m wide and 10 m deep crater was formed at the site of the blast. 30 people were killed in this blast while more than ten thousand people were injured.

The UK’s largest oil producer company BP’s refinery (UK oil major BP’s Texas City refinery) was located here. On this day, when the hydrocarbon isomerization unit was started here, the distillation tower was completely filled with hydrocarbons. Because of this, there was a strong explosion. Due to this, 15 people lost their lives while 150 people were injured. The UK oil producer company was fined for this. The US head of the BP company was also blamed for this. On 13 November 2005, there was a massive explosion in China’s series of explosions in China-based Jilin Petrochemical. However, the number of casualties was only five and around 70 people were injured. Even after this, it is counted among the major industrial and chemical accidents of China. Due to this explosion, benzene was leaking into the river flowing near it, due to which millions of people were deprived of drinking water for some time. Thousands of people were taken to another place as a precaution. When it was investigated, it was found that the operators had tried to open the nitrobenzene rectification tower. The Jilin Bureau of Production Safety Supervision and Administration’s report said that the temperature had reached a high level due to the valve being open. The storage tank in its vicinity also contains nitrobenzene, Benzene and nitric acid were filled. It also caught fire after the explosion. The supply of water and electricity was disrupted after this explosion. Later when the water came in the taps it was red and yellow. Due to this explosion, water was also spoiled in the border areas of Russia.
