Landslides in Myanmar

Yangon, Agency. So far, 51 people have died in landslides in south-eastern Myanmar. The death toll is increasing steadily. Rescuers say the death toll may increase further.

Debris removal is still in progress. Seeing the magnitude of the disaster, the army has also opened its front in rescue operations. Brigadier General Jaw Min Toon has said that our regional military command is engaged in search and rescue operations in the Apada areas. Helicopter relief material is being delivered to the flood affected area.

Life has been disrupted due to heavy rain and flooding in Myanmar’s Mon, Koran and Kachin provinces for several days. The army said that the province of Mon is most affected.

Many houses collapsed due to landslides and floods. Many bridges were damaged due to floods and landslides. Due to this the movement in the area has been completely disrupted. This is also causing difficulties in relief work. People are being sent to safer places by boat.

Search is still on for the survivors. Search and rescue teams are still searching for the bodies to get the bodies out of the mud. Officials say some people may still be missing.
