Washington, AFP. The American carrier Boeing spacecraft, which flew for the International Space Station (ISS), returned to Earth without completing its mission. The Boeing Starliner vehicle had to be diverted back to Earth due to a technical flaw. The unmanned spacecraft was launched on Friday with the help of an Atlas rocket from the Cape Canaveral Launch Center in Florida, USA.
A top Boeing company official said that the fuel consumption in the launch of the vehicle was increased due to one clock defect. With this, it was not possible for the spacecraft to reach the International Space Station (ISS), located in space 400 km above the earth. The spacecraft made landings at the White Sands Missile Range, a desert area in Mexico. A dummy was sent to this vehicle.
The vehicle will be tested
This was believed to be the final test in the direction of sending the vehicle into space with the crew. Now NASA has to consider whether to test the vehicle again or, believing it, the spacecraft along with the crew is sent to space. The failure of this campaign is considered a major setback for Boeing.
Started the clock wrong time
“We started the clock at the wrong time,” Jim Chilton, senior vice president of Boeing’s space and launch division, told reporters. The failure of the Starliner is yet another setback for Boeing, which has yet to recover from two fatal accidents on its 737 MAX aircraft. These accidents took place in Indonesia in October 2018 and Ethiopia in March 2019, in which a total of 346 people died. Boeing plans to postpone the production of the 737 MAX aircraft from January.
