ITR Filing Date: CBDT has extended the date of filing of income tax returns, now ITR can be filled till September 30

The government has extended the last date for filing the income tax returns for the financial year 2018-19 by two months, now the income tax returns can be filled by September 30. The Income Tax Department has taken this step to provide relief to the income tax payers in view of the corona virus epidemic. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the last date for filing income tax returns for the financial year 2018-19 (assessment year 2019-20) from 31 July 2020 to 30 September 2020. It is noteworthy that the date of filing the original or revised income tax returns for the financial year 2018-19 has been extended for the third time.
The department said in a tweet, ‘In view of the corona virus epidemic, giving more relief to the income tax payers, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) last date for filing the income tax returns for the financial year 2018-19 (assessment year 2019-20) It has been increased from July 2020 to 30 September 2020.
In March this date was extended from 31 March to 30 June. Later in June it was again extended for a month to 31 July. Now the date has been extended once again. If a person is not able to file ITR by the stipulated time frame (ie, September 30, 2020), then he will not be able to file income tax returns for the financial year 2018-19. CBDT has stated that the person can also file a revised ITR for FY2018-19 within this time frame.
