India-Sri Lanka T20 match canceled

On Sunday, the first T20 International match between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati was canceled without bowling due to rain, which also increased the wait for fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah to return to competitive cricket. After winning the toss, Indian captain Virat Kohli invited Sri Lanka to bat first, but shortly before the start of the game, heavy rain started.

After the rain stopped, there were some wet spots on the pitch which were used to dry and use various tools including a hairdryer. The umpires decided to cancel the match after the last inspection at 9:30 pm local time, which in large numbers disappointed the spectators present in the stadium despite the rain.

Bumrah, who had been out for the last few months due to injury, was placed in the playing XI by India. This fast bowler would have been the first competitive match against West Indies after the Test match in Kingston but their wait has now extended till Tuesday when these two teams will play in Indore to play the second T20 match.

Kohli expressed his intentions by winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. India has always been achieving better results in chasing the target. He said at the time of the toss that batting first has become the second priority in view of the result of previous matches.

Kohli said, “We have to play in the World Cup ahead and that’s why we can pay special attention to one format.” The Indian team management did not keep Manish Pandey, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal and Sanju Samson in the playing XI. Sri Lankan captain Lasith Malinga also said that he is eyeing the World Cup for which he will prepare his best team in the next two months.
