In the year 2019, 381 people committed suicide every day, road accidents also increased – NCRB

The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has released data on suicides across the country in the year 2019. According to them, a total of 1,39,123 people committed suicide in India in 2019. This means that about 381 people committed suicide everyday in the country. The latest figures are about 3.4 percent more than the year 2018. It simply means that more people have died in the last year than in 2018. The reason behind this can be anything. NCRB figures show that in the year 2019, the suicide rate in cities has been 13.9 per cent, which was more than the 10.4 per cent suicide rate across India. According to the report, in the year 2019, 53.6 percent people hanged themselves in suicide cases, 25.8 percent consumed poison, 5.2 percent people drowned in water, 3.8 percent people committed suicide and killed their lives.

According to the latest NCRB data, in about 32.4 percent cases, people ended their lives due to family problems, while 5.5 percent people took such a step due to marital problems. At the same time, 17.1 people troubled by the disease took this fatal step. Further, these figures show that out of every 100 cases of suicide, 29.8 percent of women and 70.2 percent of men were involved. Suicides included. About 68.4 percent of these men were married and 62.5 percent were married women.

Maharashtra has seen the highest number of suicides where 18,916 people lost their lives by committing suicide in the year 2019. After this the figure is 13,493 in Tamil Nadu, 12,665 in West Bengal, 12,457 in Madhya Pradesh and 11,288 in Karnataka. Out of the total number of suicides across the country, only 49.5 per cent cases have been reported in these five states alone. Uttar Pradesh, the most populous, had relatively few suicides and in this state the figure was only 3.9 percent.

Apart from this, NCRB has also released figures of road accidents in the country. In its year 2019, there were 4,37,396 road accidents in the country, in which 1,54,732 people died and 4,39,262 others were injured. In this also, 59.6 percent of the road accidents were caused by driving at high speed in which 86,241 people lost their lives and 2,71,581 were injured. Significantly, in the year 2017, where 1,50,093 people lost their lives in road accidents, in the year 2018, 1,52,780 people died due to road accident.

According to the data, 38 percent of the people who lost their lives in road accidents were two-wheel drivers. The truck was involved in 14.6 percent, lorry 13.7 percent and car 5.9 percent. According to NCRB data, there were 25.7 per cent cases of negligence or dangerous overtaking while driving on the road, killing 42,557 people and injuring 1,06,555 people. 2.6 percent of its road accidents were due to bad weather. According to the data, accidents occurred in rural areas at 59.5 percent while in urban areas 40.5 percent.
