US President Donald Trump and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan have agreed that only the army can not solve the problem of Afghanistan through the army. The two leaders have admitted that through negotiation, permanent peace can be achieved in this war-torn country. Following the bilateral talks with Imran Khan for the first time, the US President softened his stand and said that Pakistan is currently helping the Afghan peace process. Imran Khan, while shedding tears on the issue of terrorism, said that Pakistan has been fighting for the last 15 years against terrorism.
Trump said that I think peace can not be sustained by the army in Afghanistan. If an effort is made to find a solution through the army, then millions of people will be killed. We are very close to the peace agreement. We hope that in the days to come, we will succeed in persuading the Taliban to make peace in Afghanistan. It is also possible that we will find a political solution to the problem of Afghanistan through negotiation in the future.
During the joint press conference, the US president told reporters that in the last few weeks there has been a lot of progress in the peace process and that even hundred percent is true that Pakistan has proved to be extremely helpful. However, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said that this is a very delicate period. We are trying to build consensus among the countries. I have convinced the American president that we are with him and want peace in Afghanistan. Pakistan’s PM, while announcing gambling tears on the issue of terrorism, also said that his country has been fighting for the last 15 years against terror.
