Hong Kong protesters again threaten to extradite China, Dragon signs
Hong Kong, AP. After the implementation of China’s National Security Act in Hong Kong, there is now a threat of extradition to China. China can now enter into an extradition treaty with Hong Kong by imposing a law prohibiting demonstrations and dealing with them strictly. After this, protesters and other accused arrested in Hong Kong can be taken to China and prosecuted in the court there.
The protest movement started in Hong Kong in 2019 only after the local government brought the extradition treaty bill to the Assembly. The government later withdrew the bill but the movement did not stop and the agitators began demanding complete democracy in Hong Kong. Now China has said that if the movement becomes violent, then the people involved in it can be booked under the National Security Act and sent to the court of China for hearing.
After this statement, there has been a debate on the provisions of the Security Act. It is being said that now there will be no need to pass a bill in the assembly. The government will be able to send the accused to China for trial in the court of their choice. It is noteworthy that nothing is clear about China’s judicial system. The courts at the behest of the ruling Communist Party take arbitrary decisions and punish them.
Those who say anti-government are kept in an undisclosed location for years and have no connection with the world. Meanwhile, Taiwan has canceled the visas of two Hong Kong government officials. Hong Kong’s autonomy has been jeopardized by the recent imposition of National Security Act on Hong Kong by China. Major countries of the world, including Taiwan, have opposed China’s move. Taiwan’s latest move is being considered as this protest.
The conflict between Hong Kong and China is also increasing. Britain has now suspended the extradition treaty with China indefinitely. On Sunday, Foreign Minister Dominic Raab accused China of gross violations of human rights and said that the suspension of the extradition treaty with China would be announced in Parliament.
