Read Time:3 Minute, 20 Second

In a recent interview with Lallantop, rapper Honey Singh, popularly known as Yo Yo Honey Singh, provided a candid account of his battle with substance abuse and its profound impact on both his personal life and family. Singh’s openness about his struggles reveals a journey marked by addiction, personal neglect, and eventual recovery.

Honey Singh began by recounting how he was first introduced to drugs. He shared that his entry into substance abuse was influenced by a few prominent and influential figures who challenged him to partake. They said, “You’re a big Punjabi, you drink, try this too.” Singh, initially dismissive of the risks, thought it was a trivial matter and tried drugs a few times. However, what began as a seemingly harmless experimentation quickly escalated into a serious addiction. Singh admitted that he became dependent on drugs after repeatedly using them, eventually finding himself in a situation where he needed them both before going to bed and immediately after waking up. This dependency left him in a constant state of being high, which made him unaware of his actions and words, leading to a severe disconnect from reality.

Singh’s addiction not only impacted his personal well-being but also took a toll on his relationships, particularly with his former wife, Shalini Talwar. He reflected on their relationship during that tumultuous period, explaining, “Our relationship wasn’t great at that time. There was distance because I was constantly traveling.” The rapper highlighted how his addiction and relentless pursuit of success led to significant strains in their marriage. After marrying Talwar in 2011, they had a period of stability for about 9-10 months. However, as Singh’s career soared and success came rapidly, he began neglecting his family. His focus shifted entirely towards his career, causing him to become increasingly distant from his wife, parents, and other loved ones. Singh admitted, “I neglected my family, including my parents, Gudiya, and Shalini. I forgot about them and treated them badly.” This period of neglect and disconnection had a lasting impact on his personal relationships and contributed to the deterioration of his marriage.

Amidst his struggles, Singh was not entirely isolated. He received considerable support from several prominent figures in the industry. Singh expressed gratitude towards Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Akshay Kumar, who reached out to him during his health crisis. “Akshay used to call and check on me, Deepika recommended a doctor, and Shah Rukh called regularly to inquire about my health,” Singh said. These acts of support from his peers were instrumental in his journey toward recovery. Despite his inability to communicate effectively during his struggle, the consistent efforts of these celebrities to stay in touch and offer help were a source of comfort and encouragement for Singh.

In recent developments, Honey Singh has been working to rebuild his career and personal life. His latest album, ‘Glory’, was released on August 26, signaling a significant step in his return to the music industry. The album’s release marks a new chapter in Singh’s professional life, reflecting his resilience and determination to move forward despite past challenges. Additionally, Singh is preparing for a Netflix documentary titled ‘Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous’, which promises to provide an in-depth look into his life, struggles, and triumphs. The documentary is anticipated to shed light on Singh’s journey, offering viewers an intimate glimpse into the experiences that have shaped his career and personal life.

Through his interview and recent projects, Honey Singh demonstrates not only a commitment to overcoming his past but also a desire to connect with his audience on a deeper level. His story of addiction, recovery, and the support from his peers underscores the importance of resilience and the impact of having a support system during challenging times. As Singh continues to navigate his path to recovery and career rejuvenation, his openness about his struggles serves as a reminder of the complexities of fame and the personal battles that often accompany it.
