Google and Walmart to join Hands for Voice Enabled Shopping

Read Time:1 Minute, 45 Second

In the technology update, Google and Walmart have signed a deal to make thousands of Walmart products and purchase through Google Home voice-controlled speaker say as voice Enabled Shopping. This new technology is the answer for Amazon Echo.

Companies will release in the US from next month where consumers can buy Walmart products through voice-activated Google Assistant platform on phones and home devices.

Walmart head Marc Lore has mentioned in his blog post that they are set to expand the voice-activated to 4,700 stores for creating the customer experience.

Here is how Voice Enabled Shopping will work:

If a buyer visits Walmart in any of the US supermarkets, the device will offer consumers the choice of picking up the order in a store with discount and enables to use voice shopping to purchase fresh groceries. Under this, buyers will have thousands of products as an option to buy.

For Google and Walmart, Amazon has been the big rival and has been attracting more and more shoppers towards it. As per the recent study, 55 percent of US adults start their online shopping from Amazon. So this is what Google and Walmart want to change.

For Walmart, adding its products in Amazon’s Alexa was never a question, as both are a huge rival in the e-commerce business. With the Google Home, both companies can work actively in gaining the bigger market size.

Along with this announcement, Google also said that it will eliminate the $95 annual membership fee for Google Express shopping service which was introduced three years back. Walmart will be integrating with Google Express, which already allows buyers to purchase products from a large number of brands.

Google in its statement said, “If you’re an existing Walmart customer, you can choose to link your Walmart account to Google and receive personalized shopping results based on your online and in-store Walmart purchases.”

It will be interesting to see how Walmart, which already owns the biggest share of the US grocery market, will compete with Amazon.
