It is being told that he drank tea with family members at around 5.45 pm on Thursday evening. After this, he went to his room. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Chandrashekhar, 57, played 7 ODIs for India between 1988 and 1990. Police investigation officer Senthil Murugan said, ‘This is prima facie a case of suicide. Investigation still in progress. The body has been sent for postmortem and we are waiting for the report.
Murugan also told that ‘Chandrasekhar was under heavy financial pressure. He had invested three crore rupees on the Tamil Nadu Premier League team Kanchi Veterans. A month ago, he received a notice from the bank.
The official handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted, ‘Sorry to inform BCCI that former India opener Chandrashekhar is no longer in this world. We express our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and fans.
Many well-known cricketers in India have expressed grief over their partner leaving the world. Former Team India captain Anil Kumble said, ‘Heartbreaking news is, VB so soon, I am able, my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.’
Former Indian team batsman VVS Laxman wrote in a tweet – ‘My dear friend V.B. I am very sad and shocked to know the news of Chandrashekhar’s absence. Heartfelt condolences to his family. RIP. ‘
