Floods continue to wreak havoc in Indonesia's capital, Jakarta, 47 dead in floods and landslides
Jakarta, Reuters. Monsoon rains in Indonesia and the rising watershed of rivers submerged a dozen districts in Jakarta. So far, 47 people have died in floods and landslides, while relief and rescue teams have evacuated more than 31,000 people to safe places. According to Indonesia’s Disaster Management Agency, more than 17 people have died in Jakarta’s city of Bogor, while others have died in the cities of Lebak, Bekasi, and Tangerang. Officials said people died in Jakarta from drowning, landslides, hypothermia (abnormal body temperature) and lightning strikes. Water infiltration into homes caused heavy damage and migration of people to safe places continues. So far, 47 people have died in floods and landslides.
Rescuers take a newborn baby to a safe place with the help of a tube in the residential area of Tangerang, capital Jakarta. Due to continuous rains, the situation here has become serious. In the year 2007 floods killed 45 people.
