Anil Mehta’s passing has left his family and loved ones in profound grief. The 62-year-old, who reportedly died by suicide, made his final call to his daughters, Malaika Arora and Amrita Arora, just moments before his death at his Mumbai residence on Wednesday.
According to a report by India Today, Anil’s last communication with his daughters was a phone call in which he expressed his feelings of exhaustion. Sources from the portal noted that Anil, who was deeply troubled, reached out to both Malaika and Amrita shortly before he took his final actions. At the time of the call, Malaika was en route to an event in Pune, which added a layer of urgency to the distressing news.
Malaika Arora, who is known for her work in reality TV and as a former VJ, issued a heartfelt statement on Instagram later that evening. She asked for privacy as her family navigated through this incredibly difficult time. Her statement read, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta. He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend.”
She continued, “Our family is in deep shock by this loss, and we kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time. We appreciate your understanding, support, and respect. With gratitude, Joyce, Malaika, Amrita, Shakeel, Arhaan, Azaan, Rayyan, Casper, AXL, Duffy, and Buddy.”
In the wake of Anil Mehta’s death, actor Varun Dhawan took to social media to criticize the paparazzi for their insensitivity. He expressed his outrage on Instagram Stories, highlighting the distressing behavior of photographers who were capturing images of the grieving family. Dhawan’s message read, “It is the most insensitive thing to point cameras on the face of people who are grieving. Please think about what you are doing or what someone is going through when you do this. I understand this is work, but sometimes another human might not be okay with this… humanity.”
Kareena Kapoor, along with her husband Saif Ali Khan, paid their respects by visiting the Mehta family’s residence in Bandra, Mumbai. The presence of celebrities such as Kapoor, along with other notable figures, underscored the wide circle of support surrounding Malaika and her family during their time of mourning.
In addition to Kapoor and Khan, other prominent personalities were seen at the Mehta household, including Arjun Kapoor, Malaika’s ex-husband Arbaaz Khan, and Chunky Panday with his daughter Ananya Panday. Arbaaz’s family, including his parents Salma and Salim Khan, also came to offer their condolences, demonstrating a strong network of support and solidarity in the face of such a tragic loss.
The sudden and tragic death of Anil Mehta has deeply impacted his family and friends, who now face the difficult task of processing their grief while navigating public scrutiny and media attention. The response from both the public and the media underscores the delicate balance between respecting the privacy of those in mourning and the inevitable public interest in high-profile figures.
