Social media company Facebook is planning to invest in technology start-ups in India. Ajit Mohan, Vice President and Managing Director, Facebook India, has pointed this out while speaking at the Huddle Kerala-2019 event held in Kerala. Mohan said that we have shown a willingness to invest directly in India’s technology start-ups. We want to devote our attention and time to the large number of engineering talent in the country.
Huddle Kerala is involved in large start-up conferences in Asia. It is organized by the Kerala Start-up Mission (KSUM) and the Internet and Mobile Association.
Mohan said that Facebook had made a partial investment in a company named Misho a few months back. This was the first such investment by the company anywhere in the world. With this, two lakh women entrepreneurs were successful in coming online.
This innovation from India can be carried to the rest of the world. It can play a very important role in employment generation. There are currently only 35% women employed in the technology sector in India. We have to focus on measures to end this gender discrimination and identify the reasons that are preventing women from entering these areas. Mohan said that Facebook is focusing on skill development and creating a platform for start-ups.
