Facebook launches music video app Collab to compete with TikTok, this is how it works

Facebook has launched its new experimental music-making app Collab on Apple’s App Store amidst competition from Chinese short-video making platform TikTok. Through this app, users can do music making and mixing with their friends. This app has been designed in such a way that users can make music together, not just physically.

This experimental app introduced to make collaborative music videos has been made available in the App Store in the US. This app is part of Facebook’s App Focused New Product Experimentation (NPE) team.

With the help of this app, users can combine three independent videos of up to 15 seconds to create a short form music video. According to a report by TechCrunch, users can either create a collab by playing with someone else’s video, or swipe on one of the three rows to bring a new video clip that will sound better with your composition.

It was further told in the report that users can find the musician and favorite in the app with whom they would like to play. In such a situation, whenever they post new clips, they will continue to get notifications. It will also personalize the main feed.

Facebook has made a number of improvements on the audio sounding capabilities and other technical parts of the app. These improvements have been made during the beta testing period from May this year.

Like TikTok, once a collab is made, you can publish it for others to see and mix and match even further. Also, you can share it on Instagram, Facebook Stories and some other platforms.

Facebook had also introduced the reels editing feature and standalone app Lasso on Instagram earlier to compete with Tittok. However, the company was later discontinued by Lasso.
