England’s team managed to draw a five-match Ashes series 2-2. However, Australia has retained the Ashes trophy. Due to the series draw, England and Australia got 56–56 points for the World Test Championship.

England defeated Australia by 135 runs on the fourth day of the fifth and final Test match of the Ashes series played at The Oval ground in London. After this victory, the England team was successful in drawing a five-match Ashes series 2–2. However, Australia has retained the Ashes trophy. Australia won the Ashes series last time, so this Ashes will remain with Australia.

Due to the series draw, England and Australia got 56–56 points for the World Test Championship. England scored 294 runs in the first innings, while they were all out for 225 runs to take a lead of 69 runs. After this, England scored 329 runs in their second innings and set a huge target of 399 runs to win the match in front of Australia.

In response to this goal, the Australian team was all out for 263 runs in 77 overs and lost by 135 runs. Matthew Wade scored 117 runs for 166 balls with 17 fours and a six. He scored the fourth of his career and the second century of this series.

Even this century of Wade could not avoid the defeat of Australia. Apart from Wade, Steve Smith was the second-highest scorer with 23 runs. Australia, chasing a mammoth target of 399 runs from England, started playing at 167 for five after tea.

After tea, Wade scored 60 and captain Tim Paine extended his innings to 10. Australia got the sixth blow as Penn on the score of 200. Penn scored 21 runs off 34 balls with the help of four fours.

The visiting team then lost Pat Cummins (9) as the seventh wicket at a score of 244, Wade at the score of 260 as the eighth wicket. The Kangaroos again lost their ninth as Nathan Lyon (1) and their 10th wicket as Josh Hazlewood (0) at a score of 263. Peter Siddle was unbeaten on 13 off 18 balls with the help of two fours.

Apart from them Marcus Harris scored nine, David Warner scored 11, Marnus Labushane 14 and Mitchell Marsh scored 24 runs. Apart from Broad and Leach’s four wickets for England, captain Joe Root contributed significantly to dismissing Australia with two wickets. 

England fast bowler Joffra Archer, who took six wickets in the first innings of the match, received the man of the match award. Apart from this, Steve Smith of Australia and Ben Stokes of England jointly received the Player of the Series award. In addition to scoring 441 runs in 10 innings of the series, Stokes also took eight wickets while Smith scored 774 runs in seven innings.
