Dhoni has taken two months’ rest from cricket to work in the Territorial Army. He took charge on 30 July and will remain in Leh with his battalion till 15 August.
Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni can hoist the tricolor in Leh, Ladakh on the occasion of Independence Day. Dhoni, who has been a Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army, is currently on duty in Jammu and Kashmir with the Territorial Army.
Dhoni has taken two months’ rest from cricket to work in the Territorial Army. He took charge on 30 July and will remain in Leh with his battalion till 15 August.
An army officer said, “Dhoni is the brand ambassador of the Indian Army. He continues to inspire members of his unit and often plays football and volleyball with the soldiers. He is also practicing with the core. He will remain in the valley till August 15.
However, the official did not say at which place Dhoni will hoist the tricolor on August 15. There was speculation about Dhoni’s retirement after the Indian team was eliminated from the semi-finals in the World Cup. Dhoni sought a break from the board to give two months to the parachute regiment. He is not part of the Indian team’s West Indies tour.
