Keeping in mind the dew, the BCCI has accepted the CAB’s plea to change the playing conditions.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Bengal Cricket Association (CAB) have decided that India’s first day-night Test match to be played at Eden Gardens Stadium will start from one o’clock in the day and will run till eight o’clock at night. The Test will be played between India and Bangladesh from 22 to 26 November. This will be the first day-night format match test of both the teams.

A BCCI official confirmed this and said that the day’s play would be terminated at eight o’clock at night, as there would be dew problem in Kolkata if the game continues after that.

“Keeping in mind the dew, the BCCI has accepted the CAB’s plea to change the playing conditions,” the official told IANS. The day’s play will now start at one o’clock in the afternoon and the first session will end at three o’clock. The second session will start at 3:40 pm and end at 5:40 pm. The last session will run from six to eight o’clock.

Earlier, Eden Gardens curator Sujan Mukherjee had said that starting early will help in fighting the dew problem. He said, ‘The dew problem usually starts after 8:30 pm. We have seen this in limited-overs matches at Eden. So I think dew will cause problems. We have also found the means to deal with the dew problem.

When the curator was asked about his preparation for the match, he said, ‘My preparation will remain the same as for the match of the day. I will try to make the pitch game in mind. We have seen many good pitches on Eden. It will also be no different. There will be no change in it due to the day-night match.

At the same time, the demand for tickets for this match is also at its peak. The CAB tweeted, “Nearly 50,000 spectators will see it every day for the first three days of India’s first day-night Test match because the demand for tickets has skyrocketed.”
