Delhi Air Pollution: Pollution levels rise in Delhi-NCR, relief not expected for few days

Read Time:1 Minute, 33 Second

For the last three days, continuous increase in pollution levels has been recorded in Delhi-NCR. Due to this, the Air Quality Index (AQI) of Ghaziabad and Greater Noida was recorded in Gambhir and very poor category in Delhi and other cities of NCR on Wednesday. However, air quality remained in the severe category at nine places in the capital as well. According to Safar India and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), pollution levels increased due to reduced wind speed and temperature.

Pollution levels are expected to improve on Thursday, but the index will remain in a very poor category. The situation will continue for the next few days.

Increased pollution due to air moving from northwest direction

The air index in Delhi was 376, while the air index was 367 a day earlier. According to Saffar India, the levels of PM (Particulate Matter) -10 and PM 2.5 responsible for pollution in the atmosphere have increased. In Delhi, PM-10 level was 334 and PM-2.5 level was 196 micrograms per cubic meter. This was 313 and 193 micrograms per cubic meter respectively a day earlier. The pollution level increased due to the decrease in the speed of air moving from the north-western direction.

There have been 316 incidents of stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana, compared to 258 incidents a day earlier. Starchy smoke accounted for three percent of Delhi’s pollution.

AQI of Delhi-NCR

Ghaziabad – 421

Greater Noida-406

Noida-394

Delhi – 373

Faridabad – 326

Gurugram-324

These areas remain the most polluted in Delhi

Ashok Vihar – 425

Vivek Vihar – 410

Mundka-410

Nehru Nagar – 402

Patparganj – 403

Sonia Vihar – 402

Jahangirpuri – 407

Rohini – 407

Chandni Chowk – 406

Explain that since Diwali in Delhi-NCR, pollution levels started increasing. But there was some relief from light rain in between. However, once again pollution is increasing.
