Due to burning of straw in Punjab and Haryana, air pollution level in Delhi-NCR has reached a poor category. At the same time, Environmental Protection and Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) has fully geared up to curb air pollution. Many changes will be seen from Thursday.

Delhi’s diesel generator banned from today

Graded Response Action Plan (GRAPE) has been implemented from Thursday in view of the continuously poisonous air in Delhi-NCR. GRAP will be effective until March 15 next year. It has provisions to deal with various situations of air pollution in four different phases. On behalf of EPCA, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have been clearly told that in view of the corona epidemic, no laxity will be tolerated in the implementation of grape this time.

EPCA member Sunita Narayan says that there will be a ban on running diesel generators in Delhi as well as in urban areas of NCR. These include Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Panipat, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida.

At the same time, EPCA President Bhurelal has said that plastic, rubber and restricted fuel will not be allowed to be used at any cost. Teams have also been formed for night patrolling. Regular inspection is going on and action is also being taken. Many industrial units have started using clean fuels ie PNG (piped natural gas). Units that still use polluting fuel will be sealed. A large part of the air pollution is due to burning of garbage, where possible, arrangements should be made to sweep in the streets and streets through machines day and night. Sprinkle water on the roads and possible steps should be taken to prevent dust pollution.

Diesel generators will be allowed in these essential services

  •   Medical-Hospital / Nursing Home / Health Care Facility
  •   Elevator
  •  Railway Services / Railway Station
  •   Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s train and railway station
  •   Airport and Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT)
