Footballer Dhanrajan Radhakrishnan, who represented Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, died while playing a football match in Perinatalamanna, Kerala. Dhanarajan reportedly suffered a heart attack. Dhanarajan was 39 years old.
Defender Dhanarajan, playing for FC Perinatalamanna in a ‘Seven A-Side’ match against Sastha Medicals FC Thrissur on Sunday evening, fell unconscious during the match and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Sevens football tournament is organized by All Kerala Sevens Football Association.
According to hospital sources, he died at 10.20 pm. Dhanarajan fell unconscious in the 27th minute of the match. Earlier, he raised his left hand and made some gestures. The All India Football Federation has mourned the death of Dhanraj. He also played for Bengal in the Santosh Trophy.
Dhanarajan started his career with Chirag United. He played professional football for 11 years. Apart from being part of Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, he also represented Mohammedan Sporting from 2012 to 2014. Dhanarajan came to Calcutta in 2005 with mid-fielder Denson Devdas and United Sports Club (then Chirag United) was the first team he played for.
