Captain Mashrafe Mortaza’s team, despite losing many chances of catching, got wickets at regular intervals of South Africa and allowed him to score 309 runs in 8/50 in 50 overs. This victory over South Africa will be bigger than the 2007 World Cup victory for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s best performance in ODIs was 329 in 2015 against Pakistan. His best score in World Cup was 322 runs in four wickets against Scotland in 2015 and his best score against South Africa was 278 runs in 2017.
Shakib and Mushfiqar’s third wicket partnership of 142 runs is also Bangladesh’s best partnership in the World Cup. Apart from these, opener Soumya Sarkar contributed 42 and lastly Mahmudullah contributed 46 not out.
South Africa beat such a wicket
To chase the target, Bangladesh started with Mushfiqur Rahman and off-spinner Mehdi Hassan Miraj against South Africa. He got the first breakthrough in the 10th over with Quinton de Kock (23) who got out with Mushfiqur Rahim in the absence of Eden Markram.
Markram (45 runs) and captain Faf du Plessis (62 runs) gave the team 100 runs to the end of the 19th over. But in the next over Shakib was hit on the ball, which was also the 250th wicket of this Bangladeshi bowler.
Then David Miller landed on the crease, who did not play in the opening match against England. In the 25th over, Du Plessis sent the ball to Moshezdek Hussain for six sixes and completed his 50 runs.
Mehdi Hassan Miraj made captain Duplessis (five fours and a six in 53 balls) in the second spell to blow the ball to South Africa. Mehdi Hassan’s beautiful ball straightened out of the stump of Duplessis, after which there was a wave of happiness in the Bangladeshi team and fans. In this way, the team scored 147 runs for three wickets in the 27th over.
The pressure on the South African team was increasing, with Miller (38 runs) and Rasie van der Dussen (41 runs) playing for safekeeping. Mustafizur removed South Africa’s fourth blow to Miller, whose brilliant catch was Mehdi Hassan.
Many times Van der Dussen, who took the team out of difficult situations, was betrayed and the team had expected him, but he became the victim of a bad shot, he bowled Mohammad Saifuddin’s ball.
Saifuddin got the wicket of Andyle Fahlquoio. Then in the last five overs, the team needed 63 runs to win. Mustafizur Rahman got Chris Morris (10) wicket in the 46th over. Hoping from JP Duminy (45), he became bold on the slow bouncer of Mustafizur Rahman in the 48th over. Kagiso Rabada 13 and Imran Tahir remained unbeaten after 10 runs
In the opening match of the World Cup, South Africa’s experienced opener Hashim Amla’s helmet got Jaffra Archer’s ball so that he could not make it available in the match. And there was also a bad news for the team that fast bowler Lungi Nagesi (34 runs without a wicket in four overs) showed hemorrhagic treatment and afterwards he did not come for bowling.
