CWC-2019: Bangladesh sweeps big overs, South Africa win by 21 runs

This is the second defeat in South Africa’s tournament, in which he suffered a brilliant 104-run defeat from the hosts England on Thursday.

Bangladesh started their campaign with a win by defeating South Africa by 21 runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup match, thanks to good bowling after Shakib Al Hasan (75) and Mushfiqur Rahim (78), and also scored the best score in ODIs. This is the second defeat in South Africa’s tournament, in which he suffered a brilliant 104-run defeat from the hosts England on Thursday.

Bangladesh scored a scintillating total of 142 runs for the third wicket between Shakibul and Mushfiqir and scored 330 runs for the sixth wicket with a one-day international, against South Africa and also in ICC Cricket World Cup.

Captain Mashrafe Mortaza’s team, despite losing many chances of catching, got wickets at regular intervals of South Africa and allowed him to score 309 runs in 8/50 in 50 overs. This victory over South Africa will be bigger than the 2007 World Cup victory for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh’s best performance in ODIs was 329 in 2015 against Pakistan. His best score in World Cup was 322 runs in four wickets against Scotland in 2015 and his best score against South Africa was 278 runs in 2017.

Shakib and Mushfiqar’s third wicket partnership of 142 runs is also Bangladesh’s best partnership in the World Cup. Apart from these, opener Soumya Sarkar contributed 42 and lastly Mahmudullah contributed 46 not out.

To chase the target, Bangladesh started with Mushfiqur Rahman and off-spinner Mehdi Hassan Miraj against South Africa. He got the first breakthrough in the 10th over with Quinton de Kock (23) who got out with Mushfiqur Rahim in the absence of Eden Markram.

Markram (45 runs) and captain Faf du Plessis (62 runs) gave the team 100 runs to the end of the 19th over. But in the next over Shakib was hit on the ball, which was also the 250th wicket of this Bangladeshi bowler.

Then David Miller landed on the crease, who did not play in the opening match against England. In the 25th over, Du Plessis sent the ball to Moshezdek Hussain for six sixes and completed his 50 runs.

Mehdi Hassan Miraj made captain Duplessis (five fours and a six in 53 balls) in the second spell to blow the ball to South Africa.
