Covid Vaccine: Largest wastage in Lakshadweep, Haryana and Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken the issue of Covid vaccine wastage very seriously.

Lakshadweep, Haryana and Assam retained their place in the top-10 states with the highest loss of corona vaccine amid this crisis for the second consecutive day on 9 May. With increasing demands for the Covid-19 vaccine in the country, major injection wastage has been a concern for the government, which reported the highest 22.74 per cent wastage in Lakshadweep till 8 am on Sunday. In the Union Territory, 22 percent of Covid vaccines were allegedly wasted by 8 am on Saturday.

After Lakshadweep, Haryana has the second largest state with 6.65 percent wasting of Covid vaccines, followed by Assam (6.07 percent).

Rajasthan has recorded 5.50 percent wastage of Covid vaccines, 5.05 percent in Punjab and 4.96 percent wastage of Covid vaccines in Bihar. In Dadra and Nagar Haveli (4.93), Meghalaya (4.21 percent), Tamil Nadu (3.94 percent) and Manipur (3.56 percent) reported Covid vaccine wastage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the issue of Covid’s vaccine extermination very seriously and requested people through his Twitter three days ago to “reduce the waste of vaccine to strengthen the fight against Covid-19″. ”

Modi praised Kerala for reducing vaccine wastage, saying, “It is good to see our health workers and nurses as an example in reducing vaccine wastage.”

A nationwide Covid-19 vaccination campaign was started on January 16 for health workers. The country started the third phase of the vaccination campaign on May 1 for people between the ages of 18-44.

According to official figures, the Center has so far provided more than 17.56 crore vaccine doses (17,56,20,810) to states and union territories. Of this, the total consumption including wastage is 16,83,78,796 doses.

According to the Union Ministry of Health, the total number of doses of Covid-19 vaccine is 16,94,39,663.
