Covid-19 In Cats Too: Cats can be infected with Covid-19 many times more than we think, so stay tuned.
New Delhi, Lifestyle Desk. Coronavirus infection is now spreading in cats as well, a study has revealed. A recent study in Wuhan, China, found that cats have more cases of corona virus infection. Researchers at ‘Huazhong Agricultural University’ took blood samples of 102 cats between January and March 2020 in the first phase of the epidemic, which showed that cases of corona infection in cats are increasing compared to earlier. Samples were also taken from the anal of cats in the study.
The study was published in the journal ‘Emerging Microbes and Infections’. The study found that 15 cats had ‘antibodies’ in their blood, while 11 of the cats included in the study had no antibodies.
The study found that none of these cats were confirmed infected, had no symptoms of Kovid-19, and none of them died.
However the infection in stray cats could not be fully understood. It is reasonable to speculate that these infections may have spread due to contact with SARS-CoV-2, contaminated environments, or COVID-19 patients. Covid patients may have fed cats, due to which the infection has spread to cats.
The study suggested that distancing should also be taken care of among Kovid-19 patients and pets. Quarantine rules should also be applied to these pets at home.
Researchers said there have also been signs of cats becoming infected with other cats. According to the study, humans are spreading the infection in cats.
Melin Jin, who is leading the study, said that so far there have been no signs of humans being infected with cats.
He said that besides keeping distance from human beings, people should also consider the rule of keeping proper distance from animals, especially cats and dogs.
