COVID-19: Death toll crossed 22,000 in Italy, 1,68,941 people infected

According to new data released by the country’s Department of Civil Protection, the lockdown caused by the Corona Virus epidemic has killed 22,170 people in Italy, while the total number of people infected with the Corona virus has risen to 1,68,941.
Angelo Borelli, head of the Department of Civil Protection, said that 1,189 new cases have been registered on Thursday. He informed that 26,893 or 25 percent of the infected people are hospitalized and 2,936 patients are kept in ICU. This is the lowest number of patients in the ICU since 22 March. The remaining 72 percent of Corona positive people are at home.
Borelli said that 525 people died due to Corona virus on Thursday. After which the total death toll has reached 22,170. The epidemic first started from northern Italy on 21 February.
According to the National Federation of Order of Surgeons and Dentists (FNOMCeO), 127 doctors have lost their lives so far while saving the lives of people suffering from corona virus.
“We have seen in the last few days that we are in a descending trend in terms of the curve of epidemiology”, said Silvio Brusferro, president of the National Institutes of Health, who was present at the press conference on Thursday.
